Susquehannock High School principal, Mr. Brian Cashman, received an anonymous
phone message and an anonymous email of a rumor that someone is planning to
bring a weapon to the King of Hearts dance scheduled at the High School for the
evening of Thursday, February 4th. The Southern Regional Police, under the
direction of Chief James Childs, have been notified and have already commenced
an investigation in conjunction with the High School administration. Chief
Childs stated. "Although we do not know whether this is a real threat or a
prank, we are taking this matter very seriously and plan to conduct a thorough
investigation on both the origin of the messages and the information received." Following a discussion with Chief Childs, High School and District administration have decided to cancel the dance until completion of this investigation. In addition, for the immediate future, the school has increased normal security procedures as well as police presence in and around the school. The District urges any student or parent that has knowledge concerning this threat to immediately contact the Southern Regional Police. The School District plans on using several methods of communication to all Susquehannock High School families so they are informed of this incident., including its electronic notification system, letters sent home Tuesday afternoon with all students, and information posted on the School District's website. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas Hensley stated, As always, the Southern York County School District is committed to the safety of our students and staff, and to open and thorough communications with our families and the community." Parents are encouraged to contact Principal Cashman if they would like further information. |
